2007 : an eventful year

2007 : an eventful year for GeoPost

2007 was full of highlights for GeoPost as it reinforced its international presence, strengthened the DPD brand, developed new local services and implemented environmental initiatives.

A stronger international presence

GeoPost expanded its operations on every continent

In 2007, GeoPost reinforced its presence in fast-growing markets in Europe, Asia and Africa.

  • South Africa
  • In February 2007, GeoPost Intercontinental, a GeoPost subsidiary, established a joint venture with Laser, a South African group. This resulted in the creation of DPD Laser Express Logistics.
  • Spain
  • GeoPost consolidated its presence in northern Spain when it acquired the SEUR-Santander franchise (in the Cantabria region) through its joint venture with SEUR.
  • Turkey
  • GeoPost acquired a 25% stake in Yurtiçi Kargo, the country’s leading private express transportation company. Yurtiçi Kargo is a long-standing partner of GeoPost.
  • China
  • DPD China, a subsidiary of GeoPost Intercontinental, opened 10 new agencies in China, Macau and Hong Kong.

DPD widens its scope in Europe

Operating under the international brand DPD, GeoPost’s subsidiaries guarantee seamless transportation and delivery for their customers and consistently high-quality service.

In 2007, GeoPost took initiatives to reinforce the DPD brand in Europe:
  • Armadillo, a Russian subsidiary of GeoPost, now offers its services under the DPD brand name,
  • the Polish subsidiary Masterlink is now known as DPD Polska,
  • the Baltic subsidiary Bizpack has become DPD Baltics.

New local services

In 2007, GeoPost developed new local services for deliveries to private customers.

  • Germany: “Paketshops”
DPD Germany has opened more than 2,000 Paketshops. Installed in local shops, these distribution points combine the advantages of longer opening hours and city centre locations. They offer ready-to-send parcels in four sizes: S, M, L and XL.
  • France: Chrono Relais
Chronopost has launched Chrono Relais, a local delivery service that provides an alternative to home delivery. Customers can pick up their parcels from the newsagent closest to their home. 3,000 newsagents with extended opening hours now offer Chronopost services, adding to our existing network of more than 14,000 post offices.
  • Spain: delivery until 9:30 pm
In Madrid, four vehicles are used to make home deliveries to private customers until 9:30 pm. Customers are alerted by SMS. This system is designed to improve the first-visit customer delivery rate and, as a result, reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
