DPD 1 year with green electricity

DPD Belgium and DPD Luxemburg: one year with green electricity

In March 2010, DPD Belgium and DPD Luxemburg make a feedback on one year of 100% renewable electricity for three out of five of their depots.

It is impossible for the transport sector to not emit CO2 but we are nevertheless taking all the green measures we can. We must adopt the greenest possible behaviour,” declares Marc Hasler, CEO of DPD Belgium N.V.

In February 2009, DPD Belgium and DPD Luxemburg signed green electricity contracts with different suppliers for totally renewable electricity in 3 of their 5 sites.

The different green contracts are perfectly in line with our new strategy which does not only concern electricity. The additional diagnostic and survey services also make a difference. We also believe that employee’s awareness plays a very important role.

In parallel with the launch of the green electricity contract, DPD Belgium and DPD Luxemburg simultaneously deployed a broad employee’s awareness programme about ecological behaviour and habits in the workplace.

In the offices, we have put up reminder posters about saving energy; we have revised the timing systems, put up “home-made” posters about turning lights, computers, screens and air conditioning off when people leave the office. I have noticed positive reactions from our staff even if it will take a few years before mentalities change. However, the structure is in place. It is clear for everyone that we will continue on this green path.

These two axes for sustainable development, awareness and 100% renewable electricity have generated very positive results; electrical consumption has dropped by 4% since 2008.
