GeoPost : A SUSTAINABLE SERVICE PROVIDER
GeoPost has undertaken a “Bilan Carbone™” (Carbon Assessment) in October 10, 2008
What is the “Bilan Carbone™” (Carbon Assessment) system?
Developed by ADEME (French Environment and Energy Management Agency), it is a concept that uses comprehensive data to calculate greenhouse gas emissions.
It provides an accurate evaluation of both direct and indirect emissions.
This method can be used for any activity : industrial or service company, Civil Services or municipalities.
“Carbon Footprint” assessment within GeoPost’s operational scope
Resource and waste consumption are due to: transport of a parcel : use of fuel, CO
2
emissions, GeoPost - Headquarters and GeoPost subsidiaries’ sites and buildings : use of natural resources like energy, water, paper cardboard and waste, CO
2
emissions, waste water
Three Sources of Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Source 1 : Employee and Parcel Transport - GeoPost answer: Employees combine different transport modes that are economical and responsible - Business Units use the full over-land DPD network to transport parcels throughout Europe.
Source 2 : Procurement and Waste Management - GeoPost answer: Increase recycled paper share, double-sided paper printing, waste separation, recycling, reusable packaging
Source 3 : Energy Consumption - GeoPost answer: Solar heating test, temperature reduction in receiving zones
Monitoring of the reduction of CO

Since October 2006 GeoPost has put in place a reporting on 6 sustainable development indicators
Some further steps for GeoPost Group Commitments: October 2006: Installation of six sustainable development indicators - June 2008: Bilan Carbone ™ (Carbon Assessment) - August 2008: GeoPost Sustainable Development Charter - Initiatives for reducing CO

emissions
Subsidiary Initiatives – Other examples are given in the following fields :
Transport: whyflyparcels, DPD initiative (it’s time to change transport modes): the goal of whyflyparcels is to clearly explain available sending options (air or ground), in relation to CO
2
generated per mode - Seur, Chronopost and DPD are putting in place alternative solutions to transport and delivery: Chrono City, electric vehicles, recycled biodiesel, natural gas vehicles, … To know more about it, go to : www.whyflyparcels.com
Sites and Buildings: Eco-efficient actions such as DPD’s Living Future programme - Chronopost has launched an ISO 14001 certification of its sites.
Procurement and Waste Management: Responsible waste reduction actions, such as DPD Germany’s Backbox or DPD UK’s Swapit. Boxes are reused or recycled.
In a nutshell :
Group Commitments in three steps: October 2006: Installation of six sustainable development indicators - June 2008: Bilan Carbone ™ (Carbon Assessment) - August 2008: GeoPost Sustainable Development Charter
Subsidiary Initiatives in three fields: Transport: whyflyparcels initiative and innovative solutions regarding transport and delivery - Sites and buildings: actions for eco-efficient sites or ISO 14001certification programme - Waste management: actions for reduction and responsible waste management
